Our History

...................................................................

MATA was conceived as an answer to a need for short-term training opportunities for those involved in ministry, or planning on mission work and ministry in their lives.

While several schools offer 2-5 year mission aviation training programs, MATA seeks to fulfill the need for training structured to the specific time-table and needs of individuals in ministry. This may include those who plan on attending a specific Bible school or seminary which does not offer aviation training; those already involved in ministry who must tailor the training to specific “time windows”; and to go on-site (and those with ministries needing on-site training at their locations) and according to their schedules, MATA seeks to promote aviation safety through high-quality training that is need and situation specific. We desire to come alongside of existing ministries and enhance their outreach through such training!

In the fall of 1998, MATA incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation in the state of Washington. Initially using the resources of a local fixed-base operator at Arlington Municipal airport, it quickly became apparent that MATA needed the flexibility of its own aircraft and facility to fulfill it’s mission. Faith-steps were taken to purchase a Cessna 150 as a primary trainer. As the need for a complex trainer for commercial and instrumental ratings was also apparent, a Mooney M20C was procured for that purpose. Currently, MATA operates two aircraft in training roles: a Cessna 172 for primary and instrument training, and a Cessna 150A Texas Taildragger for primary and tailwheel instruction. Operations continue at Arlington airport, where MATA has hangar, classroom, and office facilities.
