Summer Camp

...................................................................

PRESS RELEASE (Arlington, Washington):

An aviation summer camp will be held in Arlington during August for 14- to 18-year-olds interested in becoming pilots.  The week-long camp, organized by Brigade Air, Inc. of Tucson, Arizona and hosted by Mission Aviation Training Academy and The Point Church, both of Arlington, should especially appeal to youth interested in exploring aviation as a service ministry.

Brigade Air developed the youth summer aviation camp program in 2001 to introduce teens to the joy of flying, and to use aviation to inspire them toward missions service.  Brigade Air also can provide teens with a source of focus, identity, and belonging through their adolescent years.  Since the program’s inauguration in 2001, there have been over 1,100 campers at 65 week-long camps in various states throughout the country.  More information about Brigade Air can be found at www.brigadeair.org.

Mission Aviation Training Academy (MATA), located at Arlington Municipal Airport, is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization founded in 1998.  MATA helps train pilots to meet the qualifications for major mission aviation organizations, and also trains pilots directly for service with smaller, independent mission ministries.  For more information about MATA and the aviation camp, call the MATA office at (360) 435-8179 or (425) 231-5855 or view our Summer Camp page.

Campers will experience “ground school” in subjects such as basic aerodynamic principles and aircraft systems, and receive aircraft familiarization and introductory flight orientation Monday through Friday (weather permitting).  Another highlight will be a field trip to a local aviation museum.  Additionally, participants will be exposed to missions aviation through videos and personal sharing by field-experienced missionary pilots.

Everyone involved in aviation knows that operation of aircraft is very expensive, but MATA is collaborating with Brigade Air to underwrite the costs of this aviation summer camp to keep the price as low as possible and make it affordable for more young people.  The Point Church is co-hosting the camp to provide inexpensive housing and feeding of the campers.  Partnering by Brigade Air and MATA will effectively provide a $1,000 “scholarship” to each camper, with the resultant cost to individual campers only $450.  However, space is limited and is expected to fill up quickly.

The youth aviation summer camp will be conducted from August 19th to 25th at the MATA hangar at Arlington Municipal Airport.  Campers will be accommodated at The Point Church building on the airport property, just across the runway from MATA.  To register for this exciting, educational camp, go to www.brigadeair.org and click on “Camper Registration,” or call (520) 408-2359.
